1. Who these terms are with

Life - Student Edition is operated by CitiIT Limited, trading as dPaul Software, registered in England and Wales under company number 15811174, registered office C/O SG Accounting, 1 Cedar Office Park, Cobham Road, Wimborne, BH21 7SB, United Kingdom, VAT number 473 5892 49. Contact: david@dpaul.studio.

"We" and "us" mean that company. "You" means anyone using the app.

2. Using the app means accepting these terms

By signing in and using Life - Student Edition you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, don't use it.

We may update these terms. The version published here is the one that applies, and the date at the top tells you when it last changed.

3. You need to be 18 or over

This version is for adults. By signing in you confirm you are at least 18 years old. If we find out an account belongs to someone younger, we'll close it and delete what we hold.

4. It's free, it's in beta, and it's provided as it is

There's no charge, no subscription and nothing to buy. That's deliberate, and it also sets your expectations: there is no service level, no uptime guarantee and no support commitment. Beta means features may change, break or be withdrawn, and things will occasionally go wrong.

To the fullest extent the law allows, the app is provided "as is" and "as available", with no warranties of any kind — express or implied — including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement.

5. Your account

You sign in with your email address and a one-time code. Keep access to that mailbox secure, because anyone who can read it can sign in as you. Don't share your account or let someone else use it.

You can close your account at any time by emailing us from the address you sign in with. We may suspend or close an account that's being used to break these terms, to attack the service, or to do something unlawful.

6. Your data is yours, and so is backing it up

The app runs in your browser and stores your information on your own device. We never receive it, which also means we can never recover it. If you clear your browser data, lose the device, or delete something by mistake, it's gone.

Use Back up in Settings, and keep the file somewhere safe. Don't treat this app as the only copy of anything that matters.

7. It isn't advice

The budget, grades, deadlines and wellbeing parts of the app are there to help you keep track of things. They're tools, not professional advice.

• Nothing in the app is financial advice. It doesn't know your circumstances and doesn't take account of them. For money worries, speak to your university's student services, Citizens Advice, or a qualified adviser.
• Nothing in the app is medical or mental health advice, and it isn't a crisis service. The wellbeing links are there for convenience only. If you are struggling, contact your GP, NHS 111, or Samaritans on 116 123. In an emergency call 999.
• Travel, weather, news, train and shop information comes from outside sources and may be wrong, late or missing. Check anything you're relying on.

8. Music and YouTube

The background music player is YouTube's. Using it means you're also using YouTube, under Google's terms and privacy policy, and it stays switched off until you agree to that.

You're responsible for the links you add and for sharing a music list only with people you're happy to. A share link carries the YouTube addresses inside the link itself, so anyone who has it can pass it on.

9. What you must not do

• Use the app for anything unlawful.
• Attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the app, the sign-in service, or the services it connects to.
• Use the train, news or other built-in services in bulk, automatically, or in any way that goes beyond ordinary personal use.
• Copy, redistribute, resell, or host the app as your own, or strip out branding and attribution.
• Reverse engineer or decompile the software, except where that right cannot lawfully be excluded.

10. Who owns what

The app, its source code, design, logos, the dPaul name and the Life - Student Edition name are owned by us or licensed to us, and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights. Nothing here transfers any of that to you. You get permission to use the app for its intended purpose, and nothing more.

Everything you put into the app, and anything you produce with it, remains entirely yours. We claim no rights over it.

Some components are third-party open-source software carrying their own licences, which continue to apply on their own terms.

11. Limits on our liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you're using the app as a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

Subject to that, and to the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for:

• loss or corruption of your data, entries or backup files;
• loss of profit, business, revenue, goodwill or anticipated savings;
• any indirect or consequential loss;
• anything arising from a third-party service the app connects to, or from information it supplies;
• decisions you make on the basis of anything shown in the app, including money, study or travel decisions;
• the app being unavailable, interrupted or withdrawn.

Because the app is supplied free of charge, our total liability to you for all claims arising out of your use of it is limited to £100.

12. Other sites we link to

Links to other websites are provided for convenience. Those sites are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and we're not responsible for their content or practices.

13. Privacy

How we handle data is set out in our privacy notice, which forms part of these terms.

14. General

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Not enforcing a term straight away doesn't mean we've given it up. Only you and we have rights under these terms — no third party may enforce them.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you're a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.
